Michael's Story
Today Michael is looking forward to starting his course at a College of Further Education, an unlikely situation two years earlier.
Placed into care at 13, bullied verbally and physically at school, Michael attended and was excluded from several schools before coming to Westside School.
Michael's initial behaviour was erratic, ranging from polite to abusive. His literacy, numerical and cognitive skills were several years below his chronological age.
Westside School provided a key worker to assist Michael on a one-to-one basis. The school focused not only on improving his literacy and numeracy skills but also his anger management and behavioural issues.
Two years later, with Westside School's support (a registered charity), Michael not only passed 5 GCSEs, but also now has the skills to work independently, developing his own plans and commitments.
